I have been working on some more of a street scene i have been doing for a while now. The detail is almost complete and after I have finalised all the lines and tones, comes the fine process of adding individual textures to any surface thats warrants it. It should really make the illustration pop out when complete, kind of like a really vibrant Wes Anderson film. More on the “Rapture” in the title soon.

This artwork was drawn by hand initially then layered in illustrator to what you see now.

Day of the Dead Skulls Design

Hi People! I have been away for a short while as i have busy designing some apparel designs for my very good friends at www.mlcapparel.com.  I jumped at the chance to do this project as I did not really know what "Sugar Skulls" were.  After some digging i found out they are Mexican and that they create them to celebrate family and friends who have passed on.  Why don't we do something like this???  Its what fascinates me about other cultures, how one normal thing in another country would freak out another.  Absolutely ridiculous.  The majority of these skulls are drawn beautifully and are very vibrant and colourful, yet sustain a sense of tradition, and tradition is an important foundation of society.  Which would contradict what i said earlier about "why" we don't do something like this.  I gave the skulls i designed a theme.  Death is just the end of life, and to celebrate that we must also celebrate the "life" and "creation" of this person.  I decided on 3 themes..."Life", "Time" and "Death", opting out of "birth" as i could not figure out how to draw it without drawing a babies skull...which is depressing.  I hope you like them.  Other than that i have been obsessing over The Dark Knight Rises.  My thoughts go out to all those who died in Aurora, Colorado at the premiere last friday.  Speak soon.

Concept Art

I started a 3D Design course last year and i have learnt a lot from it and hope to learn more. I has taught me the skills and processes involved with creating game worlds and characters which is something I've always wanted to learn. One of the most important parts of this is concept art. This is especially important in getting the feel of a game and it is also important to consider how the character/world can be translated into 3D design program when modelling. Here are some examples of my concept art and some images of how they look once made into a 3D model. Enjoy!!!

Digital Painting History

As i was growing up i was very fond of painting.  I would meticulously copy works from the greats such as Picasso, Van Goth and Monet.  As i started to develop my own style i realised i would like to explore more and I started digital painting whilst studying at University.  I would always try to avoid traditional methods mostly at the distaste of my peers.   After University i persevered with this and only painted using digital methods.  Apart from being a really clean method, it also helped me learn most things i know today about photoshop.  These were the foundations I built to help me become the artist i am today and Im happy that i stuck at it.  Here is a couple of examples of my digital painting works.

T-Shirts?

Did i mention that i sell T-shirts? I have 2 designs at the moment.  They are digitally printed onto Gildan Heavy T-shirts.  The Artwork is done on Illustrator using the Pen tool and my graphics tablet.  I do initially draw a concept using pens as i find the lines i can create using my pens translates well into illustrator.  This is something i just love to do as the whole process can be rather technical and challenging.  To see the final Images on T-shirts is something i am particularly happy with.
